Our Team

Hamilton Skin Cancer Centre works closely with local general practitioners, Waikato Hospital and private specialists as part of a team to help in the early detection and optimal treatment of skin cancer.

As New Zealand has one of the highest skin cancer rates in the world, our doctors are passionate about encouraging patients to have skin checks and mole maps knowing that early detection and optimal treatment is key to successful treatment.

Dr Bert Rauber and Dr Joe Cornforth are part of a team that provide services at the centre, they have had many years’ experience in skin cancer medicine through clinics run at Hamilton East Medical Centre. It was the success and demand of these services that led to the formation of Hamilton Skin Cancer Centre.

Who should be checked for skin cancer?

Received sunburns as a child
Have used, or are using, a sunbed
Have unusual or multiple skin spots or moles
Have moles that are changing or growing
Have a personal or family history of skin cancer
Work (or play) outdoors

Early detection and optimal treatment is key for any skin cancers

New Zealand is a fantastic country but our outdoor lifestyle, strong sun and skin types have led to us having one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world.

And whilst we think about our skin during the summer season, really, it’s something we should consider throughout the year.

Skin cancers rarely hurt… BUT they can be seen by an expert at a skin check.

Should I choose a skin check or Naevus mole mapping?

Skin checks and NAEVUS mole mapping are both excellent ways to check your skin for cancer. However, the two options are different and will suit different people. There is no wrong way to have your skin checked – the most important thing is to get it checked by an expert.
